May 25, 2007 -- AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution Recalled due to Eye Disease

Based on information provided by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) issued a voluntary recall of its Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution.

The CDC issued a warning for those using the contact lens cleaning solution AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution because the product has been linked to a number of cases of the rare, but painful eye disease, Acanthamoeba keratitis. The disease can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness. The CDC advises users to throw away the solution, their lenses, and lens cases.

Recalled Lens Solution Remains in Use
U.S. health authorities are concerned that contact-lens wearers are still using an Advanced Medical Optics Inc. (EYE) lens solution pulled from the market two months ago due to infection links, and that the company hasn't done enough to raise public awareness.At least four cases of the serious eye-infection Acanthamoeba keratitis have been connected to use of Advanced Medical's Complete MoisturePlus solution since the late May recall, said Michael Beach, an epidemiologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC has found that many people are unaware of the recall.
Advanced Medical Optics to Launch New Lens Cleaner
LOS ANGELES, July 23 (Reuters) - Advanced Medical Optics Inc said on Monday it plans to begin shipping a new multipurpose contact lens solution in the first half of next month, returning to the market after recalling its Complete MoisturePlus in May due to increased risk for eye infections.The Santa Ana, California-based company said its new product would provide effective disinfection and comfort to users. The name of that new product was not immediately available. AMO plans to make the new solution widely available to consumers in the United States by early September.
